Thrills and Spills
by Chris

I decided to add a category labeled Thrills and Spills since my friends always insist on forwarding me YouTube videos of lifters biting off more they can chew, or just simply missing a lift and things going south very quickly. After all it happens to the best of us, and that’s what our spotters are there for, right?

I’ll admit, I get a good laugh out of them most of the time so as long as they’re ok… And sometimes I still do even if they aren’t.

Liquid Chalk by Mammut
by Chris

When not going to a power lifting gym, it’s hard to find equipment that isn’t loaded with left over lotion on it from people who insist on going to the gym trying to look pretty. Why you would put lotion on your hands before lifting is beyond me, but people do it.

Gyms typically don’t allow you to bring regular chalk in, so I found something that would take the place of traditional chalk made by Mammut. I’ve never heard of the company before, but their liquid chalk product is AMAZING. It’s very runny when coming out of the bottle, but apply it just like you would with lotion, and wait about a minute, and amazingly somehow it drys just like chalk would! All without the mess that regular chalk leaves behind.

For 11 US Dollars, it’s certainly a product that is worth buying if you can’t get a grip on the weights at your gym because of people using lotion before lifting.

Day pass for $20? I think not
by Chris

Even when on vacation, you still have to lift if that’s how your schedule falls. If you want to be the best you can be at something, you can’t take days off “just because”.

I went to a local gym with my brother on the New Jersey Shore to lift early Friday morning, and since he didn’t have guest privileges on his account, they wanted me to pay $20 for ONE visit. WHAT? I have heard amounts between 5 and 10 dollars… but double that? For that money I’d make sure I get some good use out of the equipment to make it worth while.

Luckily for me, one of the other guys working behind the counter somehow realized that charging a $20 fee to workout was insane for just one session, so he told me to give him just 5 dollars and we’d be set. I gladly gave him 5 and went on to lift.

Seriously guys, what are you thinking when you open a gym and try to charge a one time visitor $20 to lift for just one session? That would certainly have left a sour taste in my mouth had I been in the market for a new gym and was simply shopping around. I doubt I’d want to go there as a regular paying member just on principal.
